This page separates primary textual sources, technical calculation sources and contemporary interpretive conventions used by Ava Lux. The chart is a modern synthesis. Naming the layers is more accurate than pretending they all come from one ancient manual.
Primary and classical textual anchors
- Genesis 1:14. The biblical verse used on the site when discussing lights in the heavens as signs for appointed times, days and years. Read on Sefaria.
- Sefer Yetzirah, chapter 5. A central textual source for the twelve letters, constellations, months and bodily/director correspondences used in the Hebrew-month layer. Gra version on Sefaria.
- Exodus 14:19–21 and later Kabbalistic interpretation. The verses associated with the seventy-two three-letter combinations in later Kabbalistic literature. Texts and Kabbalistic commentary on Sefaria.
- Zohar, Beshalach. One of the later sources connected to the seventy-two-letter tradition and the symbolic reading of the Exodus verses. The specific use of a personal three-letter sequence in Ava Lux is a modern interpretive layer.
Astronomical calculation
Swiss Ephemeris is the calculation base named by Ava Lux for planetary positions. It is developed by Astrodienst and based on JPL ephemerides. Official Swiss Ephemeris documentation.
Contemporary interpretive conventions
Some elements in Ava Lux — especially reading the lunar nodal axis through the language of developmental Tikkun — belong to modern Kabbalistic astrology rather than to a single classical source. Ava Lux labels those elements as contemporary interpretation instead of using a commercial school as an authority. For the broader historical meaning of Tikkun, see Tikkun in Lurianic Kabbalah at My Jewish Learning.
Ava Lux interpretive layer
The following should be understood as method choices rather than claims of a single classical formula: reading Placidus and Whole Sign in dialogue, mapping modern natal configurations onto Sefirotic themes, assigning a personal 72-Name sequence through a degree-based rule, the fifteen-chapter architecture, and the practical exercises attached to the interpretation.
Why the distinction matters
Kabbalah, astrology and their historical intersections are large traditions with disagreements, textual variants and modern reinterpretations. The Ava Lux chart is more credible when it tells the reader exactly where a correspondence comes from and where the interpretive craft begins.
Reference library
The public source stack favors primary texts, educational reference works and technical documentation rather than commercial providers of competing readings.
