Tikkun means repair, correction or rectification in a broad Jewish and Kabbalistic vocabulary. It is not originally an astrology term. Contemporary Kabbalistic astrology applies the idea to a person's developmental work, often using the lunar nodes as one map of that work.
Tikkun is bigger than a zodiac sign
The word appears across Jewish religious and mystical contexts with meanings of repair, ordering or rectification. It can refer to spiritual correction, liturgical structures, the repair of qualities and broader ideas such as tikkun olam. Reducing all of that to “your North Node sign” erases most of the word's history.
How modern Kabbalistic astrology uses the term
Ava Lux uses a contemporary Kabbalistic-astrology convention in which the South Node describes familiar or carried pattern and the North Node describes a developmental direction. The broader Kabbalistic term Tikkun means repair or rectification; the specific nodal mapping is a modern interpretive layer.
The useful part of the model
Even if a reader treats reincarnation language symbolically rather than literally, the axis creates a practical question: which habits are highly familiar but self-limiting, and which capacities are less automatic but developmentally important?
Tikkun is not punishment
Correction can sound like moral failure. Ava Lux avoids that tone. The chart uses Tikkun as a directional framework: a pattern can be familiar without being “bad,” and growth can be uncomfortable without being a sentence imposed by the cosmos.
Classical source versus modern application
Sefer Yetzirah contains celestial and letter correspondences, but it does not present the modern North-Node/South-Node Tikkun formula in the language used by contemporary practitioners. Ava Lux states the difference explicitly.
How Ava Lux writes Tikkun
The Tikkun chapter looks for repeated tensions across the nodal signs, houses and relevant chart factors, then translates them into concrete patterns, restrictions and experiments. The aim is not to tell the reader who they were in an unverifiable past life as a factual biography.

Ava Lux editorial rule: source texts, later Kabbalistic interpretation, modern astrology and the Ava Lux reading method are not treated as if they were the same layer. Where traditions disagree or textual versions vary, the page says so.
