Tikkun is a Hebrew word for repair or correction. In Kabbalistic thought it can refer to forms of spiritual rectification. In contemporary Kabbalistic astrology, the word is often used for the developmental direction read through the lunar nodal axis: familiar patterns on the South Node side and qualities to cultivate on the North Node side.
The classical idea and the modern astrological use
The language of repair is much older and broader than modern natal astrology. Traditions dealing with gilgul, spiritual practice and the repair of the soul cannot be reduced to a single point in a birth chart.
Modern Kabbalistic-astrology schools nevertheless use the lunar nodes as a practical map of Tikkun. Ava Lux follows that contemporary convention while keeping the distinction visible.
What are the lunar nodes?
The North and South Nodes are calculated points where the Moon’s orbital plane intersects the ecliptic. They are not planets. Astrologers interpret the axis symbolically. In the Ava Lux reading, the South Node describes a field of familiar reflexes or overdeveloped strategies; the North Node describes a direction that can feel less automatic and therefore more developmental.
How Ava Lux reads the axis
- The signs of the South and North Nodes establish the basic polarity.
- The houses show where the polarity is likely to be experienced.
- Close planetary contacts can modify the reading.
- The interpretation is compared with the rest of the natal chart instead of being treated as an isolated verdict.
Tikkun is not punishment
The language of correction can sound punitive when translated badly. Ava Lux uses it as a direction of conscious work: a pattern to notice and a different capacity to practice. It does not mean that hardship proves spiritual failure, that a person “deserves” an event, or that the chart fixes a moral debt.
Example: Capricorn South Node, Cancer North Node
In the fictional Ava Lux sample, the nodal axis runs from Capricorn to Cancer. The reading frames the familiar side around control, self-sufficiency and structure, and the developmental side around receiving, nourishment, emotional openness and shared resources. That is an interpretive example, not a universal description of every person with the same nodes.
