Contemporary Kabbalistic astrology often reads the South Node as carried or familiar pattern and the North Node as the direction of Tikkun. Ava Lux uses this as a contemporary Kabbalistic-astrology convention rather than attributing it to a classical source. Astronomically, however, the nodes are simply the two intersection points between the Moon's orbital plane and the ecliptic.
First: the nodes are not planets
The lunar nodes are mathematical points. They mark where the Moon's orbit crosses the apparent path of the Sun. Eclipses occur when a new or full Moon happens close enough to this nodal axis.
The South Node in the Kabbalistic reading
In the contemporary Tikkun model, the South Node is read as a zone of familiarity: habits, competencies and reactive patterns that feel natural because the person already knows how to inhabit them.
The North Node
The North Node describes qualities that may be less automatic and therefore more developmental. The point is not to erase the South Node. A mature reading uses existing capacities without letting them become the only available strategy.
Why the nodes always form an axis
The nodes are exactly opposite each other. That means Tikkun is structurally relational: Aries–Libra, Taurus–Scorpio, Gemini–Sagittarius and so on. The correction is not a random second sign added to the chart; it is the opposite end of one geometric axis.
Signs and houses answer different questions
The nodal signs describe the style of the polarity. The houses describe the life areas in which the polarity becomes concrete. An Ava Lux reading uses both when reliable birth time is available.
Where the model is modern
The lunar nodes have long astrological histories, but the specific equation of South Node with past-life pattern and North Node with Tikkun belongs to contemporary Kabbalistic astrology. Ava Lux does not attribute that exact formula to Sefer Yetzirah.
A practical reading question
Instead of asking “Which node is good?”, ask: what do I keep doing because I am already competent there, and what capacity would make the whole axis more balanced?
